db0 Folding Electric Bicycle
ROBRADY addressed age-old design challenges of the folding bicycle and celebrated its central design feature to create an award-winning and innovative transportation solution for the 21st century.
Aside from creating a market-pleasing aesthetic, the greatest challenges presented by a folding electric bike start when the ride is over. How do you store it? How do you transport it? How do you charge it?
Working in concert with Taiwanese manufacturer DK City, we took a u-turn from conventional folding bike design by embracing “the fold” as the central design feature -- instead of hiding it.
In use, electric bicycle’s motor eliminated emissions and cut human effort in half, making it feasible and useful as a mode of transportation. When folded, one of the 20” wheels and a convenient handle made the bicycle easy to roll while the handlebars functioned as a stand to keep the bike upright.
The convenient collapsibility and transportability of the bike also provided an elegant and efficient answer to security, making the bike easy to bring inside and store instead of leaving locked outside, an easy target for thieves, vandals and the elements.
We also incorporated a cast aluminum frame instead the traditional welded tubes to eliminate problem areas for rust and corrosion. In so doing, we created a design that was built to last and make a lasting impression. By striving to celebrate, not conceal, the key element of the folding bike, we found solutions that enhanced an already eco-friendly vehicle and strengthened the brand and broadened market appeal.
The Db0 Electric Folding Bicycle has not only recharged a segment of the transportation market, but has been honored with multiple design awards, including a Spark Design, a Universal Design and the Design Award for the Federal Republic of Germany.
